How We Work
From first sketch to first löyly, a clear process with no surprises.
1. Site visit and heater sizing
We measure the space, check the panel and the run distance, and calculate the cubic volume so the heater is specified to the room rather than to a guess. You get a plan covering wood, layout, ventilation, and what the electrical will involve before anything is ordered.
2. Permits, prep, and rough-in
We file the electrical and, where the structure needs it, the building permit. Then we prepare what a sauna kit assumes already exists: a level and drained substrate, correct framing, insulation, and a vapour barrier lapped and sealed in the right direction.
3. Build, commission, and hand over
Walls, ceiling, benches, backrests, door, and glass go in, the heater is wired and commissioned, and the intake and exhaust are set and balanced. We run the first full heat cycle with you, adjust the controls, and leave you with a care routine that keeps the wood right.

You bought a sauna kit and opened the box
Precut cedar and a terse instruction booklet that assumes you already know what you are doing. We inventory it against the manifest, prep the substrate, and assemble to manufacturer spec so the warranty stands.
The heater needs a dedicated circuit
Almost every electric sauna heater above the smallest infrared units needs its own 240V home run. Shared circuits and undersized wire are the most common problem we find, and they are a safety issue rather than a paperwork one.
The space needs real preparation
A sloped patio, a damp basement corner, a bathroom being gutted anyway, or an exterior pad that needs drainage. This is structural work the instructions skip entirely, and it decides how the room lives.

What Goes Into a Sauna Installation
The pieces we specify and install on every job, and the ones homeowners usually want a say in:
Sauna heaters
Electric wall and floor units, wood-fired stoves, and hybrid heaters from the major brands. Sized to room volume, wired to a dedicated circuit, and commissioned hot before we leave. Controls can be panel-mounted, remote, or app-driven with a scheduled preheat.
Floor and wall construction
Insulation, a foil vapour barrier lapped and taped in the correct direction, furring for an air gap behind the cladding, and a floor that drains and cleans. This assembly is what determines whether the room lasts thirty years or five.
Ventilation
A low intake near the heater and a high exhaust on the opposite wall, sized and balanced so the room turns its air over without dumping heat. Adjustable vent covers so you can tune it once you have lived with it.
Benches and backrests
Bench height set by ceiling height, depth set by whether you want to lie down, and a backrest angle you can actually relax against. Built in aspen, alder, or thermo-treated wood that stays cool to the touch at temperature.
Door details
Outward-opening, no latch that can jam, tempered glass in a wood or full-glass frame, and a gasket that seals without sticking. Handles in wood so nothing burns a hand.
Lighting, controls, and extras
Low-voltage backlit benches, recessed and shielded fixtures, salt walls, sound, an oil diffuser off the intake, and the accessories that make it a room you use: bucket and ladle, thermometer and hygrometer, headrests, and a sand timer.
What Affects the Cost of Sauna Installation
Installation is priced to the job, not by the hour. These are the factors that actually move the number:
- Kit assembly or full build. Assembling a prefab you already own is the accessible end. Framing a room from scratch, insulating it, and finishing it in your choice of wood is a different scope entirely.
- The electrical run. Distance from the panel, trenching for an outdoor build, and whether the panel has capacity for the heater are together the single biggest variable on most jobs.
- Site and substrate. An existing level, drained floor is quick. Pouring a pad, building an exterior platform, or correcting slope and drainage adds both material and labour.
- Heater and controls. Electric, wood-fired, and hybrid units differ in price, venting, and clearance, and digital controls or remote start add a modest amount on top.
- Ventilation and finish. Ducted intake and exhaust, a floor drain, glass, lighting, and trim matched into a finished room all extend the scope beyond a basic install.
- Access. A hillside lot in Tiburon, a tight stairwell in Sausalito, or a second-floor install changes how materials move and how long the crew is on site.

How long does a sauna installation take?
A prefab kit with the substrate already in place is usually three to seven days on site. A custom room framed from scratch runs four to eight weeks from approved design to first heat cycle, and outdoor builds needing a foundation take longer. We give you a real schedule before we start rather than a range.
Can you install a sauna I bought myself?
Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. Send us the model and the manifest, we confirm it suits your space and your electrical service, then take delivery, inventory every piece, and build to the manufacturer specification so the warranty stays intact.
Do I need an electrician as well?
No. We coordinate the dedicated circuit, the disconnect, and the heater hookup as part of the install, and we commission the unit hot before we leave. You deal with one company rather than scheduling trades against each other.
Where is the best place to put a home sauna?
Somewhere you will walk to on a Tuesday. Off a bathroom or in a finished basement is ideal because you are close to a shower and close to the panel. Garages and backyards work well too, and gain you space for a bigger heater and a cold plunge, but the further it sits from the house the more the preheat time starts to matter.
Will you take out the old one?
Yes. We demolish and haul away an existing sauna, assess the framing and moisture behind it, and correct anything we find before the new room goes in. Old builds regularly hide a failed vapour barrier, and it is far cheaper to fix while the wall is open.
